Wedding Vows

Wedding vows are those pledges made by the bride and groom to each other during the ceremony. You can either stick with the traditional wedding vows as dictated by the church you are being married in; or, you can choose to write your own wedding vow. It all depends on how you view things in your religion.

For instance, some Catholics are devout and believe that the Catholic wedding vows are the ultimate. However, you might find other Christian wedding vows that reflect general beliefs. Of course, those original wedding vows dictated by the church have been the ones commonly used for years. It is only within the 20th and 21st centuries that people have wanted their own original wedding vows.

There is no particular art to drafting up your own wedding vows. You don’t even have to be a good writer. As long as the words are heartfelt and sincere, your message will shine through. Examples of wedding vows can be found on the internet should you need a little boost in the right direction. Who knows? Maybe those sample wedding vows you find will spur on your own words. Sometimes gentle or indirect guidance is all that you need.

Personal wedding vows are exceptional because you can tailor your message specifically. You can share some candid moments with funny wedding vows or you can appeal to your romantic side and write some fairytale wedding vows. Of course, you could also fall back to your heritage and see if there are any tried and true blessings. Irish wedding vows greatly influence a wedding ceremony because they seem almost like poetry.

Another reason to write your own vows is if you get married for the “nth time.” Nothing that the churches preach could probably accurately describe what you are feeling when you marry again. Then there is the loveliest reason in the world why you need wedding vows – if you are marrying your spouse all over again. Renewing wedding vows is a touching reaffirmation of life as a married couple. It speaks to both the man and the woman that yes, you would do it all over again.

As you can see, wedding vows are powerful. From the time honored traditions of the church to those free wedding vows you can find on the internet, wedding vows are as meaningful as you recite them. Yes, the words are important; however, it is how you say your wedding vows that can pack quite a punch.
