Wishing Wells

Many brides and grooms already have all that they need to set up a joint household. Therefore, why would you set yourself up for toasters, ugly towels or other items you don’t need? Have a wishing well at your bridal shower or wedding.

Wishing wells are an old tradition. Wedding wishing wells were often set up originally to hold all the wedding gifts no matter what they are. Today, a bridal wishing well is typically a table top model that is the perfect receptacle in which to drop greeting cards, gift cards and money.

You can craft wishing wells from a variety of materials such as heavy corrugated cardboard that could then be painted and decorated. Or, you can purchase a wedding wishing well box at many bridal supply shops either in a brick and mortar location or even online. For the most part, a large cardboard wishing well would suffice.

Wishing wells are often employed either at bridal showers or at the wedding reception. A reception wishing well is often located near the guest sign-in book. For a wedding wishing well located at the ceremony itself, it should be unobtrusively located in the entrance foyer area.

So how do you tell guests, without being in bad taste, that you don’t wish a gift? Include a wishing well poem in either the wedding invitation. If you are clever with words, you can craft your own wedding wishing well poems or look to the internet for some help with wishing well wording. If you pen the poem with just the right words, this inferred way of asking for money will not be perceived as tacky.

You will discover that there are bridal shower wishing well verses as well as verses for a wedding. Of course, the bridal shower invitations will hint at the wishing well a little differently than the invitations to the wedding. For the bridal shower, because there are fewer guests, you could use a McCoy wishing well cookie jar in lieu of a real wishing well. Of course, these cookie jars are collector’s items and can be hard to find!

If you are planning to have a wishing well at your wedding, you should know that in addition to making one or buying one, you can also rent them. Sometimes, you can get a free wishing well from a party rental place if you have already spent money with them. Whichever you decide, you have a place for those marriage well wishes.
